Elise Purcell received her training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). Based in New York City, IIN is the largest nutrition school in the world. It is accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, as well as licensed by the New York State Department of Education. IIN is the only nutrition school to integrate over 100 different dietary theories…from Eastern to Western, ancient to modern, traditional to innovative. The speakers come from different disciplines, backgrounds, and viewpoints to offer quite a diverse and comprehensive education. Some of the most notable include Dr. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, T. Collin Campbell, Walter Willett, Paul Pitchford, Dr. Barry Sears, Dr. John Douillard, Dr. Mark Hyman, and David Wolfe.
This variety of experts and theories translates to learning various and perhaps seemingly contradictory theories such as the Zone Diet, Vegetarian, Vegan, Atkins, Macrobiotic, Glycemic Index, Raw Foods and Blood Type. The school is open and understanding to the fact that what might bring health and happiness to one person might be different from another. Elise herself does not advocate any one specific way of eating, but rather has a deep belief that each person is different, thus creating his or her own specific needs. These are based on many things such as genetics, gender, body-type and constitution, lifestyle…bio-individuality. This is the concept that each person has unique food and lifestyle needs.
Elise realized that food can act as medicine after a personal struggle with a skin disorder and digestive issues. She was told by more than one doctor that her condition was incurable and the only hope of it not completely manifesting was to take prescription medicine every day. When the medicine made the matter increasingly worse and even added new side-effects, she intuitively knew there was another way. She eliminated certain foods and brought in other deeply nourishing ones. By paying close attention to what she put in her body, she realized even certain “healthy” foods that were great for some acted almost toxically in her system because of her specific situation. Slowly figuring out what worked for her individually lead to a steady and strong healing process and an altered way of thinking and being. There could have been no greater blessing than the challenges that were presented to her health, as the experience became the catalyst that inspired her to help others find their specific path in health and nutrition.
Her education has equipped her with deep knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and the importance of preventive care. Drawing on her education and own personal experience, she works with clients to help them make the dietary and lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results, and help turn their greatest challenges into blessings in disguise.
Elise is also a Certified Advanced Practitioner of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration. www.handsofintegration.com
