Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) is a type of detective work that seeks to identify the underlying causes of disease instead of treating symptoms. Using functional lab work, we identify healing opportunities and engage you in a health building process using diet, rest, exercise, supplements and stress reduction protocols. This natural, holistic approach yields the highest level of positive clinical outcomes.
I want to be clear that I am not a doctor, nor am I trying to be or replace one. I do aim to bridge the gap between nutrition and medicine, educating and empowering you by helping in the discovery of exactly what is going on in your body and why.
Most people have malfunctions at the root of their health complaints, which can be identified using functional lab work. Most clients have no idea what is causing their complaints and sometimes neither does their doctor. Many people have been chasing their symptoms for years because other providers can’t find the cause or don’t bother to even look for it. I act as a detective and use functional diagnostic lab work to identify malfunctions at the causal level and engage my clients in a healing process.
We avoid diagnosing and treating specific disease and simply “build health” instead. This natural approach allows me to help just about anybody with a chronic stress-related health condition. Doctors don’t always have the time or resources to help their patients build healthy lifestyle habits, so this is where I fit in.
I like to call this choosing “self-care” over the “disease care” that often occurs in western medicine. Both are important, but in different situations. I would love to see more people working on building their health and moving towards disease prevention, instead of waiting until they have major symptoms/diseases and are forced to acquire medical treatment.
My philosophy: Healing should be an Adventure, not a curse!
When was the last time you talked with someone about your health and received the personal attention you deserve?
It’s rare for anyone to get an hour to work on his or her nutrition and goals with a trained professional. I am also a certified Nutritional Counselor: I am here to create a supportive environment while we explore what really works for you. This could include any or all of the following: menu suggestions, food allergy/sensitivity and/or blood testing, managing stress, how to “cook smart” or maybe even meditate or do yoga at home.
What is bio-individuality?
This leads into the concept of bio-individuality, which is that each person has her or his own food and lifestyle needs. So, when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” “avoid fats” or “eat lots of fruit,” it doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I’ll support you in making positive changes that are based on your unique needs, current state of health, lifestyle, personal preferences, and background. Instead of prescribing one fix for all people, I use a personalized, holistic approach that is based on your needs.
